That's about the best info for making a reel last longer, only one thing better is to remove the bail and fish it manually, just pick up line with finger and slide line on the post. In the past, Penn recognized that problem and made the 706 model, didn't even come with a bail, was great for fishing big live baits like eels, bunker, etc, sounded like a old coffee grinder but didn't break.
