We had issues this past weekend with cabin #17. Hot water heater was not working. The Volunteer was very attentive when we reported the issue on Friday. He looked into it right away and got it re-started, but the hot water didn't last long enough to take a shower. Park Service maintenance employee looked at it on Saturday morning. Again, the hot water was only temporary. The instant heating devices they have installed in the cabins are not a good design for this environment. Fortunately #17 is only about 50 yards from the bath house. The NPS employee at the office was understanding and sympathetic, but the bottom line is we didn't have hot water, one of the main reasons we rent a cabin. She is the only employee that works at the office. That is why the office is closed on Tuesday. Government hiring freeze is preventing NPS from hiring any additional employees to properly staff the park. Not a great experience, but we made it work.
