I took my son over for the first time last year in June and I also took my wife over for her first trip last July. We were in a truck camper so we had the a/c at night but during the day it really wasnt too bad. We stayed down at the south end both trips so we had a constant breeze and no bugs. The south end is nice that time of year for shelling and exploring. The kids will enjoy that plus you can get wet as one side or the other will be calm unless you get a due north or south wind.

Around the cabins have plenty of bug spray and extra fans or window unit will be handy. They enjoyed the old village and light house too. So if I were you I would trek south each day. As far as fish we caught mullet and pomps each day on fleas and if you want a nice run go chunk/head using leader and you can catch blacktips. We were catching 4 to 6 footers and my son had a blast.

Take a few chicken necks and string and let the kids catch crabs. Plenty of juvenile blues around that time of year. Enjoy that time while you can and just be patient.
