Back when the Willis' had the concession, the caretakers at Great Island camp were required to know CPR and basic first aid. They also had a defibrillator on the island. They would have run down to help those in need.
Just as the recent thread about the poor conditions of the cabins, things sure were better back in the day.
I also remember the Coast Guard or Marines coming out to air lift those serious health issues to the hospital.
I don't know the details of this incident but it sure sounds strange that the park service told a dying person they were "on their own" just because they were on the island?
