If there is a real reason for NPS to give up control of the island and give it back to those that should be running the show, THIS IS IT. I was involved in an event about 26 years ago that the people at the lighthouse house did help and the Coast Guard did come to the island to help someone, in the end it was too late, but they did come. For someone to be told in this day and age that help was not available for this is 100% bullshit. How many times has a Coast Guard helo went to help someone in the Bering Sea? Same kind of thing happens in National Parks all over the USA.
