I like the Gamakatsu 8'0 circle hook. It has worked well from me over the years. Tiderunner is by far a better and more experienced drummer than me. If I am trying to get distance in my cast I use the shortest leader possible maybe 4 - 6 inches. If distance is not a factor then I prefer a little bit longer leader around 14 inches. The longer leader also gives you the ability to cut the hook off and re-crimp if the leader gets frayed.
