Got a question - I was over in mid-November, and picked up the ORV permit on Portsmouth Island.
My permit number was 4599.
The proposed ORV rule (may it forever rest in it's current state of limbo) had a limit of 5500 permits per year.
Does anyone know if they started from permit number 0001? Anyone going to South Core in the past couple of weeks - and getting a new permit - do you recall what your permit number was? I assume N. Core and S. Core worked out of the same batch of permits.
Just curious. Larger numbers (<5500) are troublesome, as that points toward potential issues with availability (if and when the ORV rule goes forward). Lower numbers are also troublesome, as the plan called for the number of permits to be revised after 3 (?) years based on actual visitation - which would mean lower number of permits, and definitely issues with availability.
I didn't have a problem with the current permit system.
