Harkers Island, NC - The National Weather Service is forecasting the effects of Hurricane Michael will impact Eastern North Carolina with tropical storm force winds and heavy rains, mid-day on Thursday through Friday morning.

In anticipation of this weather event, Cape Lookout National Seashore will close the following facilities effective 11:00 A.M., Thursday, October 11 until Noon, Friday, October 12.

During this park closure:

• The Harkers Island Visitor Center, Beaufort Visitor Information Center, the Light Station Visitor Center, the Great Island Cabin Camp Office (South Core) and the Keeper’s Quarters Museum (South Core) will be closed.
• Long Point cabin camp (and office) is closed after Hurricane Florence. Reservations are canceled for the rest of the season. With damages to infrastructure and buildings, the park hopes to reopen Long Point Cabin Camp in Spring 2019.
• Island Express Ferry Service, the park’s authorized passenger ferry concessionaire, will be closed, resuming operations to South Core and Shackleford Banks after the storm. For more information, call Island Express Ferry Service at (252) 728-7433, or check the web at: www.islandexpressferryservice.com .
• Morris Marina (Atlantic, NC; (252) 225-4261) and Cape Lookout Cabins and Camps Ferry Service (Davis, NC; (252) 729-9751) will operate vehicle ferry service until the wind reaches 30 mph; they will resume operations after the winds fall under 30 mph.
• Davis Shore Ferry (Davis, NC; (252) 729-3474) has halted vehicle ferry service until after the storm has passed.
• North Core, South Core, and Shackleford Banks remain open for visitor use, under a voluntary evacuation order. Visitors should be aware that emergency response may be significantly delayed by the storm (over-wash, extreme tides, rip tides, and high winds are expected).

For more information, listen to NOAA weather radio and local media for updates and advisories. The National Park Service staff will be monitoring ongoing developments with Hurricane Michael and will post updates as needed at the park website, go.nps.gov/stormwatch, and on our Facebook page.
