I'm also taking the family over to North Core end of March(2 weeks!) for the first time. Late April is the earliest I've ever been to South core.
I do spend a lot of the spring at Harkers Island though, and I can tell you the weather is very volatile.
It can be sunny and calm and amazing, or blowing a rainy cold NE wind. Usually more NE than SW so usually more cold than warm.
Fishing will probably be sea mullet and blow toads, and drum on a SW. Always a chance for a blue blitz. Good luck and have fun!
