I think some of the scarfs seen on the back side of these inlets also point toward a lot of backflow coming from the sound side.
Some of these inlets are old inlets that have formed and closed back over the years (paleo inlets according to https://www.nps.gov/calo/learn/nature/geologicactivity.htm).
Most of these will close, but others may take years.
