Using your shadow theory and assuming 10:30am, that would put the tide as about dead low when the pictures were taken. (Getting tide status from the plan your trip links on Drumwagon home page. Shows low tide at Drum Inlet at 9:37am on Sept. 8)
I know the tides are almost always high for a few days after a storm, but if these images are at low tide there appears to be several cuts that will likely grow.
