I have witnessed some stupid and selfish activity in the past. Usually, I am too embarrassed and fearful to talk to the offending driver. However, there have been several times when I have graciously "talked" to the offending drivers. It is our responsibility. If we don't, all of us CALO fishermen get put in to the @@@hole category by the "Bambi lovers" and politicians. One way we take care of our little strip of paradise is to educate the uneducated with grace. If we see unlawfulness or just stupidity, we should approach those people and explain why they should care about this strip of sand. I, too, am a retired LEO. If they continue to break the law and make us considerate fishermen/fisherwomen look bad, I would be the first to call NPS and relay to them as many details about the offenders and their vehicle as possible. Shoot, one time I approached an offending driver and explained the law and why what he was doing was bad. He just needed to be educated. He thanked me profusely for the information and provided me a beer. Nice outcome!
