Years ago my son and I walked a mile of the sound side on the north end in knee deep water about mid day. The clams were feeding on the surface of the sand. We limited out in 1/2 hour and didn't have to dig.
A cool thing was finding a small beach that had a large hunk of concrete on it. The area around the rock was littered with shells. The birds had been dropping clams on it to break the shells.
