Perhaps many of you won't recognize the name, but a number who read this board will. Michael Laughlin, aka "Sharkie" passed away this past Sunday after courageously battling a chronic lung illness for over three years.He poured himself into an untold number of people for much of his life as a physician, an advocate for those battling substance abuse, and for those who needed an ear or simply a shoulder. He was an extraordinarily compassionate man and incredible friend. He frequented the island for many years and was a regular participant in the DIFF tournament. In fact, when he passed from this life to glory, he was wearing a DIFF tournament T-shirt. He adorned a different one each day courtesy of his caregivers and loved ones over the course of his final days. He loved North and South Core. Sharkie served on the DIFF board for a number of years and also published the DIFF newsletter for a number of years as well. It was a privilege to have known him and fished with him and his beautiful wife, Linda. Please keep the Laughlin family in your prayers. A memorial service will be held celebrating his life and faith in Jesus Christ this coming Saturday in Rock Hill, SC. Mike will be dearly missed.
