i'll throw in my two pennies.

I can see both sides. I miss the days of less people on the island (SC), but that will for sure continue to change as the population grows. I've had the day dream of letting SC be the more touristy island with cabins and lighthouse and all. While making PI the more fishing focused island. Don't rebuild the cabins there. Just a ferry dock, bath house, and park staff buildings. Try and make it less appealing to the non-fisherman. Also, since PI only has 1 ferry running, it would have to be less populated. If you want real seclusion, get a boat and go to middle core.

I think we all will have to find a way to work together, or this whole sliver of sand we love, could go a direction none of us want. I have old salt friends who have been going for years and still love it. I have newbie friends that i've introduced to the the island, and love it nearly as much. It's a national park for everyone. Not just NC residents, or people from down east, or people who have been going for years. From my kids playing in the surf in july to the seasoned fisherman that reel in bull drum near the north inlet in oct., it's everyone's island. no one more than the other. Just like here in TN where i live, i hate seeing the tourist here harass bears in the great smokies, as much as the horses being harassed on shack. There may be a difference in past generations leaving whole cars on the beach, and the current one leaving tents and trash, but i don't see it. none of it should happen, but it's going to. It's gonna take those of us that really care, to make a positive difference. My hope for CALO is that for generations to come, the beach rig driving drum hunters to the environmentalist can share the island in relative peace, and find what they are searching for.
