I have braid on a 12' okuma with an okuma 65 series reel. I use 30# braid and have no issues. I can cast it much further than my new 12' penn with a fathom II reel that has 20# mono. granted, i'm new to this kind of setup, and I only have very little practice with it. I love the sensitivity of the braid. I could feel and see small croaker, trout, and mullet bites on my 12' heavy action okuma. I caught small croaker on my 9' combo with mono, as well. problem was, i never saw the bite, and only felt the fish once i started to reel in. That braid conveys nearly every little wiggle of the fish. With that being said, i also have, what i would consider to be, an undersized 7' ugly stick with a 3000 series reel. I run 15# braid with shock leader for throwing metal in the surf. It has worked great until mid oct down at the masonboro inlet jetty. An 8# to 10# spanish or an albie hit a spanish candy like a bullet train headed away from the beach. Snapped my 20# fluoro leader like it was nothing. I think 4 things caused that. too small of a leader, no stretch in that braid, a reel that's seen better days, and I also forgot to turn my drag back down from bringing in around a 4# blue. The blues were scuffing up my leader pretty good, and i had to trim and retie twice. I'll run no less than 40# leader in that set up from now on, and try not to forget adjusting my drag. There are pros and cons to braid, but for me, it's hard to beat the sensitivity and castability of braid.
