Had a great few days on a solo trip in paradise. The red fish bite was strong. I got great advise from another solo fisherman who put me on some reds right away. I love how friendly, open and willing to help everyone is on these islands. I fished from the south tip, to as far as you could go north.

I easily caught 8-10 slot reds per day, most of which were at the upper end of the slot 22-26". Most were caught on top of the sand bars, in the foam. I used mullet, and shrimp i brined back home. I used small bait, on small hook, with small weight, and light rod. So the fights were great. Stomach contents of the fish I kept included mostly minnows, some crab, finger mullet, and even a small flounder. I never tried plastics but I am sure that would have worked well too. Other fish i caught were 1 big blue, 1 whiting, and a few rays.

A young North Atlantic Right whale washed up on the beach. As one of the worlds most endangered species of whale, a bunch of marine biologists came in and performed an autopsy, taking samples for science (I hope).

Weather was perfect, shorts and no shirt kind of days. I slept on the beach each night with no tent. Water temp was chilly but bearable with no waders. Surf was big on Friday, with clean head high barrels. Maybe I will bring a board next time.
