CAPE LOOKOUT?
South Core Banks is one of the many barrier islands of North Carolina. It is part of the Cape Lookout National Seashore, which is part of the National Park Service. The island is maintained in a fairly natural state. There is a fishing camp and also public camping areas on the island. The only way to it is by private boat or ferry. You can walk to the beach from the ferry dock or you can bring a vehicle. There is a vehicle and passenger ferry, run by Alger Willis Fish Camp, to and from the island, but as there are no paved roads, a four wheel drive vehicle or ATV is needed. The island doesn't have power or telephones. It is a great place to get away from civilization for a short time whether you are going surf fishing or just taking the family for a vacation. Of course, if you've been there.... you already know!
DRUMWAGON?
Drumwagon
was the first RV on Cape Lookout. We bought DW I in the summer of 1988
and spent the summer "engineering" her for the beach and fishing
environment . The first trip on the Captain Alger was August 5, 1988 and
AWFC didn't want to take her over at first.... said "it was too damn big
for the boat." Captain Glenn did agree to take her over and
Drumwagon has been on the Island every season since 1988.
Over the years we've changed a
lot of little things, and we're on the second RV (same model as the
first.) Spending the night
on the beach in the Drumwagon is as good as it gets!
DRUMWAGON.COM?
The decision to create a website that catered to visitors of Cape Lookout
National Seashore was an easy one! No one else did it, we had the
resources, and wanted the visitors to get as much out of the Islands as we
do.
