I'd check and see if the pompano are still in the area in Nov. I thought they go back south in the winter. I don't think anything beats sandfleas. The soft shelled ones are best(1 out of about seven you dig up are molting and soft). I've hooked them on a bare hook on a flyrod and just let them tumble in the breakers.Lots of fun and great eating.
