Core Sound is very shallow for the most part and the channels are not always marked. Drum Inlet is also very shallow and can be very dangerous. The currents change the channels on a weekly basis, Get as current of a map as you can find and if you have it, use GPS to find your way back off the sand bar you'll probably be stuck on. You would do better to fish Pamlico Sound from Cedar Island. Best would be to fish out of Harkers Island or Beaufort, there are better channels and lot's more boats to follow. There is lot's of good fishing to be done off Shackelford Island, either drifting and fishing the bottom or trolling for Spanish and Blue fish. Where ever you go get a good map, and talk to the locals.
