I don't do either one but saw a bunch of kids out there April2-5. It was windy and cold and they all seemed to be able to handle the sound. I am a canoe man and I would not be the least bit worried to put in and paddle around on the sound side with good wind and weather. The inlets are tuff and I would stay away from either side. Check and double check the weather. Good luck and don't forget to file a trip plan with someone that can help if needed.
