I have been fishing the island for many years and getting bait with cast nets the whole time. For the first time ever I caught barracuda out of the sound when getting bait. I caught 3 different barracuda out of two different locations. I showed one to a park ranger that was checking on me at the north end. He agreed it was definately barracuda and stated he had never seen them there either. He also told me that if I had been in Florida he would have had to given me a ticket for having barracuda in my bait cooler... that would be just like something I would do.... flag down a park ranger to show him an illegal fish! They stated they were not listed as game fish in NC. Two of the barracuda I caught were over a foot long with very developed teeth... the other was about half that size. I was wondering if others have caught them in cast nets and has anyone caught one on hook and line.... Don't know if they are expanding their range or if they have always been here?? Good fishing....
