My brothers and i use that type of basket .althought I made mine using PVC pipe and an aluminum bottom .We attached the rod holders by using aluminum brackets we fromed to fit around the pipe with space left to attach the brackets with screws .We used self tapping screws to attach to the baskit after deciding were we wanted to position them. The brackets were used on the top brace .The bottom was secured by using 1/4 x2 stainless bolts through the bottom brace .We drilled a 1/2" hole in one side of the pipe and a 1/4" hole on the other so the bolt could be attached to the frameof the baskit .You might consider putting on a couple extra coats of paint and coating the metal with W-D 40 before you thke it over .the salt air can be rough on the metal baskets since they were not made just for that application .I made mine from reinforced PVC and don't worry about rust or corrosion. It only cost me about 40$ in material including the aluminum bottomat the local scrape yard.I've used for 3 years now and no broblems .I coated it with spray on truck liner to make it look better and it still looks good .Happy fishing
