before the days of fiberglass, I used calcutta , made your rod, tied the guides, and they worked the best those days. After a couple years they would break, ykou always had a spare. Fiberglass came along, a different world, sold glass at first, and then came rods like we have today. You need to fish with a bamboo calcutta to appreciate the rods of today.
