DIFF Club 2002 Annual Meeting
The DIFF Club held its Annual General Membership Meeting at the Fire Department in Pineville, NC on February 23, 2002. Our meeting began with a delicious lunch of fried fish, french-fries, hush-puppies, and coleslaw provided by Jack Rainwater.
DIFF President BK Barringer called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon and declared a quorum of the general membership present. He began the meeting by announcing that AWFC was unable to attend the meeting this year. BK spoke about Karren Brown (former Superintendent of Cape Lookout National Seashore) moving to Texas and a new superintendent has not yet been assigned. He also stated that AWFC would have the same staff as in 2001 and urged the members to use ORVs sensibly by staying out of the dunes, obeying all NPS regulations, and report abuse.
Al Allison, a representative from CCA was present and talked about the CCA and their mission. (CCA's site is at http://www.cca-nc.com)
Natalie Woods of Cape Lookout Environmental Education Center thanked DIFF for 2 Scholarships the club donated. She also told us about the center's mission and classes and answered questions. (more at: http://www.cleec.org)
BK recognized several members leaving the board: Joe Gerald, Daniel Hefner, Buck Hall, and Frank Tursi. He also recognized deceased member Leonard Hudson.
Ron White talked to the members about the Spring Work Trip scheduled for April 13-17, 2002. DIFF members are asked to help with this years Work Trip by contacting Ron White at 336-788-0478 or Roger Wise at 336-784-6254 or by emailing worktrip@diffclub.com.
Jack Davis went over the tournament format and announced that the tournament would be held September 26-28, 2002. He also asked for any historical info from the membership such as winners of the first four or five tournaments, pictures, etc. We are trying to compile all the DIFF history before it's lost!
BK announced the boards recommended slate of directors and asked for nominations from the membership. No nominations were given and the directors were elected by acclamation. (You can see the new board in pictures below!)
Before closing there were drawings for subscriptions, shirts, hats, and an Instalarm Rod Rack Alarm valued at $99.00.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:00 pm with wishes for a great season!
