ust came off the island today, Aug. 13, Laura and I spent several nice
quiet days together on the beach - and I mean on the beach! Surprisingly, there was a good breeze all the time so it stayed fairly comfortable. It was a different story in the camp. Only a  few people there. However, that'll change as the weather cools and the fish start to arrive.
The final count on this year's DIFF Tournament is 141. The Board of Directors wanted to try something different this year, that is, to not limit the number of entrants, but to set a cutoff date, which was July 31. Not surprisingly, about the same number of people signed up. Treasurer Bill Stiles indicated there are a lot of new entrants this year.
Tournament Director Jack Davis has again done an outstanding job of putting the tournament together. Rules this year will be similar to previous years--just a few changes to details. They will be explained at the tournament opening. Lee Paramore with the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will be on hand to pass out fish tags and take

at AWFC have done an excellent job getting things in good shape. Also during work week DIFF and Core Banks Fishing Club members worked on cabins. Work included wiring and painting cabins, building generator shelters, and building porches on new cabins 20 and 21.
On the mainland the parking lot has been expanded and graveled, additional parking spaces have been added near the ferry dock, and new sign has been added, just to name a few improvements. I think you will enjoy the improvements. Tell Ronnie, Erma, Annette, Suzie and all the boys how much you appreciate what they do. Also, meet and talk to the DIFF board about anything that you think will help the club, tournament or island.
The tournament is the best time to get together and have some good fellowship. Hope to see you there. Have a good tournament!

Board members worked hard this year to get more prizes. Board member Mark
Wier secured an outstanding Ingersol-Rand 3.5kw generator to be raffled. It is sized to be used for home standby or contractor's job electrical source.
Don't miss a chance on it. We'll also once again have the Honda 1000. Buy your tickets early.
Wednesday night before the tournament begins Roger Wise has a big bluegrass jam session planned at Cabin 10. That should get things started. Plan to be there.
Park Rangers reported approximately 50 turtle crawls this year. Hatching should begin about the middle of August and continue into October and
November. That'll mean detours for beach closings. As in the past, the Park Service will work to make it as painless as possible, so watch for detours
and honor them. Obey the signs.
The Great Island Camp is in the best shape ever. The guys
