One time we left the cabin in a old Plymouth and drove all the way to Portsmouth. When we were coming back across where swash inlet was that old Plymouth started sounding like it would choke down on every stroke of the engine and we could see water in our tracks. We ran out of gas but as luck would have it for us that day there was a broken down car on the beach and we siffelled out enough gas into a half gallon liquor bottle (I was the runner) which took several trips but we got enough to get back. An all day adventure I will never forget. That was just before new drum inlet was blasted through. Those really were the good old days,!!
