I've never brined bait...just dry salted it. From what I understand it works on the same premise...but results in a softer bait product.
I typically only use shrimp or cut mullet...after salting I've used those for 6 months (don't think you even have to refrigerate, but I do) I would expect brine to work and stay in good condition just as long. I like how the salted bait is tougher and its less messy when you go to use it.
