Came off Portsmouth yesterday. Big blues and under size flounders were hit and miss.
NPS issued a warning about the upcoming tropical storm. Park services are closing early today. Everyone on the island stay on high ground tomorrow and Saturday.
"Facility Closures:
The National Weather Service has recently issued a Tropical Storm Warning for much of Eastern North Carolina - see their post shared below. Wind predictions have increased and are now MUCH stronger than what was estimated yesterday. As a result, additional park facilities will be closing due to this extreme weather.
The Beaufort Visitor Center & The Harkers Island Visitor Center will both close early today, Thursday September 21, to allow staff and volunteers time to attend to their homes and other needs prior to the arrival of this unexpectedly powerful storm. We expect both visitor centers will be closed by 2:00pm today. Both visitor centers will remain closed all day tomorrow, and a decision will be made regarding safely reopening on Saturday depending on conditions.
As mentioned in a previous posting, all services and facilities operated by the NPS on Core Banks (ie the Keepers Quarters Museum, Great Island Cabin Office, etc.) will unavailable starting this afternoon and continuing at least through Friday. Strong winds will likely prevent travel on Saturday morning, but condition assessments will be made at that time to determine when we can safely return to work. "
