Flounder Season opens at 12:01am on Wednesday, October 2 for gigging all you want... just not for you.
See link below to ncdmf proclamation that opens gigging and pound netting. Open until further notice.
I have a friend that has a commercial fishing permit and will be taking part. I have not discussed this with him as I am sure me talking flounder with a commercial guy would go over as good as me talking politics with my future son in law... but this is what I have heard to be true:
They have one license but can take multiple boats out to different locations at same time. Permission comes from sticker on boats. They can have as many people in the boats as boat will carry legally. They can then gig from the boat or get out and walk and gig as a team. They can get all they want. (Regs appear to say not more than 1500/3000 pounds per vessel per trip depending on exact location.)
I think there is enough flounder for all but there is no way this nightly rape of the flounder resource should be allowed during a time that the general population cannot keep a single flounder for a minimum of 23 months which we are right in the middle of.
It's just not right.
