I too got caught in fog at the cape lookout rock jetty one time. Left the jetty about 3 in the afternoon headed back to harkers island. (this was before they had gps units). Fog was so thick, you couldn't pinpoint the sun, just a general direction and it muffled most sound.
About 8 o'clock that night, I finally heard a dog bark and headed toward it. Beached the boat and walked to the house. Ask them where I was....Wound up in morehead city.
