I have seen 2 snakes this year on the island. One was a 4ft rattle snake on a backroad near the north watertower. Labor day weekend, we were camping and my best friends father got up and went to the bathhouse. When he came back to camp which was 3/4 of a mile away from the restroom he looked in his drop basket on his 4 wheeler and there sat a 2 foot long copperhead. I dont know if the snake could smell bait in the cooler or wanted a cold beer. Any way keep your eyes on your children because these types of snakes can be deadly if you cant get medical help quick enough.
My neighbor was working on a barn and a copper head feel from the rafters around a 1500lb bull. He notice that the bull hand been bitten. Thinking it would be ok, he left to go to lunch. Came back in a hour and the bull was dead. So be carefully and keep a eye out for children when near dunes.
