I use the double uni, even on heavier lines. I prefer the tapered leaders Bluefish mentioned, but when I do use 50 or even 80# I still use the uni. Do a 6 turn uni with your running line and a 3 turn uni with your leader. Since switching to the double uni I have had 0 knot failures, but I do retie it from time to time just to make sure.
