I build rods and recently built one for my wife. she wanted me to do the same
(shorten handle) to me it lost leverage and made the balance of the rod bad.
if I had it to do over I wouldve never done it! If you do cut it down you can get by with just a end cap. Just cut it where you want it cut and shave thefoam down to the blank. then clean it with alcohol, find a end cap that fits good and put it on with some 2 ton epoxy. this will hold it and is also waterproof! good luck and good fishing!
