In general, the rule is that you want the wind in your face. Another general rule is that in the spring, you want southerly winds blowing warmer water up to you and in the fall, you want NE blowing cooler water to you. Wind direction and end of the island doesn't really correlate. One time I was all by myself on the north end of the island and caught all sorts of fish. Then the bite turned off. I stayed up there. Another group went to the south end of the island that day and caught a mess of fish.
If I was there right now, I'd go south because it's still strangely cool for May 1. Not a lot of southerly winds in the last month, which means cooler water than usual. Lots of times between April 10, sometimes earlier, and April 30 the fishing will bust loose. Hasn't really happened yet to my knowledge.
Have fun!
