Personally, when I call something a hobby I try to keep costs out of the equation. If it's something you enjoy doing, and you get satisfaction out of doing it your way, then it's worth what it costs.
Fishing is a hobby for me.
That way I don't have to explain to the wife why a flounder fillet is worth several hundred dollars a pound.
