There are some great places to place a tent down below the lighthouse there is water and an outhouse down there. You can park your truck right there beside your tent. If you camp north of the cabins there are few dunes to protect your tent from the wind up there as it is flat since the hurricane, but you can place your tent just inside the dune line but dont drive in there. The Park Ranger told me if you can stand at the dune line with your arms straight out to the sides and look both ways and see no dunes then you know that your truck is safe to park there. WARNING the green head FLIES are out in force. I will say this that the island will be the best place that you have ever been to or your worst night mare. It is what you make it. Just use common sense and everything will be ok. Have a great trip. We caught some trout and black drum last weekend on fresh shimp. Will be coming over myself Saturday morning.
