Oh, I see others are posting about the begging pelican (we named him Gus). We saw him on the south end for over two weeks.Anywhere from the Jetty to the Lighthouse. At first I thought he must have been injured but then I saw him fly just fine from one group of fishermen to the next. This guy has figured out how to get what he wants and that is not croakers,toads,black or red drum. He won't eat them because of the gill plates but he loves trout and blues.
I found another injured one up at Drum Inlet several years ago and tried to give him drum filets as I was cleaning some, he wouldn't eat them, then I offered finger mullet and he ate till he was stuffed. I figured out that he didn't know what fish was without the scales. Anyway I hope you all have the chance to encounter this pelican he's a neat bird but camera shy.
