Got back from my late October trip and bought a new fishing truck, so naturally had to go back over Thanksgiving and try it out. Weather was tough...wind and rain pretty much stirred it up so that the ocean side was no good most of the time. Only action for us was on the spit. Black drum Thursday about dark...met Gus and fed him a little. We had felt sorry for him, thinking he was crippled, and after he got tired of waiting for more, he flew away! Came back though, and promptly fell asleep. One keeper flounder and one nice trout on Friday. Water finally cleared up some Saturday and though it rained all day, I was glad we were able to change ferry reservation from 12 Saturday (you're welcome, Seahag) to 4 Sunday, because we got a number of trout and a few puffers, black drum, and one VA mullet. Sunday we got up (stayed near mp31 in my uncle's travel trailer) early to get to the jetty at daybreak. Weather felt great then. When we got there, the 20knot SW wind had the waves slapping the dunes and we couldn't get through. The ocean side was raging...one guy said we'd need to fill a tackle box with weights and tie it on to get something to hold in that ocean. Gaterman, I saw your vehicle, but never had a chance to meet you. I was in the green 2002 F250 with a green camper shell. Maybe next time...See y'all next season.
