Members say: Keep tourney cap, don't raise entry fee All but one of the eight club members who responded to our "Chewing the Fat" questionnaire in the last issue of the newsletter favored keeping the 135 limit on tournament entries. "It ain't broke, so don't fix it," wrote Jim Grier of Matthews, the club's former longtime treasurer. Lee Abernethy III of Charlotte feared that enlarging the tournament could lead to problems. "The larger the tournament, the greater the chance that people will cheat," he wrote. The lone dissenter, former board member Chester Hiatt of Winston-Salem, argued that every club member should be able to enter the tournament, but he suggested that the club establish a cutoff date. Half of those who responded didn't think that the club should raise the tournament entry fee to pay for t-shirts and hats. Three favored a higher fee, and one didn't care. On the issue of the back road, six of the respondents didn't think the National Park Service should close the road, while two did.
