native 3 be amended to include the following:
n The best of the existing cabins, such as 1, 3A, 10A, and 10B, should not be torn down.
n The new camp at Great Island should extend to the limits of the present water system. The cabins in the camp shouldn't be clustered together, as they are on Portsmouth Island. Such an arrangement destroys the privacy and sense of seclusion that are among the assets of the current camp.
n  To maintain the rustic quality of the camp, electricity and gas lines should not be provided to the new cabins from central sources.
n The Park Service should not require cabins that are so elaborate as to price them out of the range of most users. People now paying $11 a night for a cabin might be willing to pay $18 or $19 a night but would in all likelihood reduce their length of stay.
n Park planners should encourage an eclectic design for the new cabins instead of the cookie-cutter duplexes that were built on Portsmouth Island.
The DIFF Club also recommends that the Park Service include in its revised Alternative 3 the construction of some rustic shelters that are now included in Alternative 4. Such a mixture of accommodations would appeal to a broad range of visitors.
The club expects the Park Service to conduct an Environmental Assessment on its preferred alternative. If the assessment finds that the preferred alternative poses a significant threat to the environment, then the club expects that a Environmental Impact Statement will be performed. We suggest that the scoping meetings for the EIS be held throughout the state because most overnight visitors don't live on the coast.
As we noted in our previous letter, the next few years are likely to be ones of great change for Cape Lookout National Seashore. Members of the DIFF Club, who have thousands of years of collective  experience on Davis Island, want to help the Park Service manage those changes.
