he entry cap will be eliminated  for the 2001 DIFF Club Surf-Fishing Tournament, and the tournament entry fee will be raised to $60 to pay for tournament hats and t-shirts.
The DIFF Board of Directors made the changes at their last meeting in July.
Board members have debated lifting the entry cap at almost every board meeting for the past year. The board had limited tournament entries to 135 club members in an attempt to make the tournament more manageable to run and to reduce crowding on the island.

For the last two tournaments, the cap was reached each spring, and five or six members had to turned away each year.
Some members complained that every club member is entitled to fish in the tournament, and the board finally agreed. Any club member whose entry fee is postmarked by July 31, 2001, will allowed to fish in next year's tournament.
To end the annual scurrying for sponsors to pay for the tournament hats and shirts, the board also voted to increase the entry fee $10.

Full house expected at fishing tourney

We'll have a full house on Davis Island for the DIFF Club's annual surf-fishing tournament, which starts Thursday, Sept. 28, and ends two days later.
The maximum 135 entrants will compete for $6,100 in prize money in six categories: red drum, flounder, bluefish, whiting and two species that will be chosen on the island before the tournament begins. Cash prizes will be awarded to the five largest fish in each category.
Contestants will have to deal

with only one rule change. Fish must be brought to the weigh-in Saturday by the contestant who caught it. Contestants won't be allowed to enter fish caught by others.
We will be giving away some pretty nice prizes, and the winner of the Honda generator raffle will be chosen at the end of the tournament on Saturday. You don't have to be present to win.
