You must be a DIFF member to fish in the tournament. Entries will be accepted until July 31, 2001. The tournament begins on the last Thursday in September and ends that Saturday. The club's annual membership fee is not applied to pay expenses or prizes for the DIFF Club Surf-Fishing Tournament

Judging from the initial results, members thought our annual fishing tournament requires few changes. There was no clear support for increasing the number of entrants, raising the purse or increasing the number of prize categories. Many who filled out the questionnaire thought we should offer more door prizes (119 points) and daily weigh-ins (116). Moving the tournament to October received 100 points.
Sponsoring a beach clean-up day (156 points) was the most important new project the club should undertake. An historical book or video about the club and Davis Island (124 points), a brochure on safe 4-wheel driving in the park (108), a Davis Island cookbook (104), and environmental brochures on sea turtles, piping plovers and other species (103) were the other top vote-getters.

ideas about what we should include on the club's website. A list of state regulations on size and creel limits (140 points), tide tables (135), tournament rules (124), a club mission statement (122), past newsletters (122), and a club message board (120) also ranked as important features. Many are already included on the website.

It received 178 points out of a possible 225. Protecting the park's natural resources (143 points), the new camp at Great Island (133), marine fisheries (133) and a recreational saltwater fishing license (126) received among the highest point totals on the questionnaire.
Building a comfort station at the north end received 165 points and was the most important improvement that members thought the club should help pay for. The DIFF board has discussed helping pay for the station with officials at Cape Lookout National Seashore. Other improvements that received high marks were general cabin maintenance (132 points), renovation and expansion of the existing bathhouse at the Great Island Camp (115), new cabins at the
