IFF Club members teamed up with compatriots from the Core Banks Surf Fishing Club to completely renovate Cabin 4 during the annual work trip May 8-12.
Twelve club members helped with a new roof, siding, floor, windows and doors. They also helped repair the roof on Cabin 5 and pick up trash on the island.
The club members who participated in the work trip were B.K. Barringer, Roy Byrd, Alvin Cheek, Chester Hiatt, Frank Long, Bob Miller, Tom Monaco, T.C. Raby, Wayne Stafford, Bill Tucker and Mickey and Helen Wynberry. Monaco coordinated the trip for the club.
He reported that Helen Wynberry prepared a delicious meal for the work group one night, and Alger Willis Fishing Camps, Inc. sponsored a great clam bake another night.
All work to the cabins was done in about three full days, and the group   took off to spend a few well-deserved hours of fishing.
In a related matter, the National Park Service will allow Alger Willis to replace Cabins 20 A&B that were destroyed last year during a hurricane. Ronnie Willis of Alger Willis says he has ordered modular units which should arrive on the island in June. They are basically shells and have to be finished on site, including installing windows, interior paneling , ceiling, insulation, floor tiling, plumbing and electrical wiring.
The DIFF Board of Directors will discuss at its July meeting if

the club should help pay for the cabin or its completion.

New board members
About 90 members attended the club's Annual Meeting in Pineville Feb, 26. They chowed down on fried fish and oyster stew, listened to some yakking and few went home with some door prizes.
They also attended to some business by electing the following people to the Board of Directors for 2000: B.K. Barringer, Steve Barringer, Roy Byrd, Jack Davis, Joe Gerald, Buck Hall, Daniel Heffner, Tom Monaco, Bill Stiles, Alvin Tans, Frank Tursi, Charles Wright. Hall, Hefner and Stiles were elected to the board for the first time. Monaco rejoins the board after a two-year absence.
They replace Jim Grier, Frank Long, Chester Hiatt and Dennis Blanton. All left the board after many years of service. The next time you see them on the beach, shake their hands and thank them for their dedication to the club.

Dig deep
Attached to the newsletter are this year's raffle tickets for a Honda 1,000-watt generator. Each ticket costs $5. Remember that, though DIFF is a non-profit group, the cost of the tickets is not tax deductible.
Buying them however is a good way to support the club and the work it does. The raffle is DIFF's second-largest source of income after membership dues. The raffle raised more than $2,400

for the club last year.
Mail the stub with your donation to DIFF, P.O. Box 531, Pineville 28134.
The winner will be drawn Saturday, Sept, 30, the last day of the club's fishing tournament. Ignore the date on the ticket. It's wrong.
Once again, our good friends at H & S Roofing in Charlotte donated the generator.

License plates are hot

The club's handsome license plates are selling fast, though a good supply is still on hand. The black and red plates show the Cape Lookout Lighthouse and a turtle with the club's motto, "We Brake for Turtles." They're available for $5 apiece.
To order plates, send your name, address and check to DIFF, P.O. Box 531, Pineville 28134.

Prints are delayed
Another hot item has been the historic black-and-white print of the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. Unfortunately, though, in this digital age it's become difficult to find a photo lab proficient at printing large prints from negatives. We are now trying our third one. The two other labs couldn't consistently print quality 16 x 20 prints at a reasonable
