Here are a few people you can write to concerning the Bluewater Network's petition to ban ORV use in our national parks.
Remember to stress in your letters that you are a law-abiding fisherman who cares too much for Cape Lookout National Seashore to despoil it. Remind the people you write that any change as drastic as a ban on ORVs should be based on sound science specific to that park and should involve the users of the park. Taking a one-size-fits-all approach fails to celebrate the differences in  parks like Cape Lookout and Cape Hatteras seashores. Until an ORV study is completed at Cape Lookout, we just don't know if vehicles are having an

effect on its natural resources. Prudence, you should stress, dictates that such a momentous decision as banning ORVs should wait until that study is done.

Alger Willis will replace cabins destroyed by hurricane

lger Willis Fishing Camp has received permission from the National Park Service to replace two cabins destroyed last year by a hurricane.
Cabins 20 A and B will be replaced by two modular units that will be built on the mainland and transported to the island.
The Park Service has assured the concessionaire that the cabins will remain if the other buildings in the camp are replaced. Willis could then use the cabins for storage.
The two four-person cabins will cost $7,100 to build, noted Irma Willis, and another $7,000 to finish.

Willis intends to ask the DIFF Club to help pay for the cabins.

Personnel changes
Annette Mitchum, who ran Alger Willis Fishing Camps with her brother Ronnie Willis, has taken an indefinite leave of absence.
Ronnie and his wife, Irma, are now running the business.
There are a few new faces  at Willis this year. Shannon Evans of Davis will be one of the caretakers on the island, and Ronnie and Irma's daughter Susan will be helping out in the office.

Four-wheeler fees
Owners of ATVs hauling long trailers will pay $65 roundtrip on the Willis ferry this year and those with three-axle ATVs will pay a round-trip fare of $45.

E mail address
Alger Willis now has an e mail address, awfc@coastal.net. Customers should just use the address to inquire for general information, Irma Willis, said. All reservations should still be made by telephone.
